Resume submission is the first step for most people in the hiring process. What happens next is, by and large, dependent on the contents of the resume. Therefore, the resume serves a vital purpose in the job-seeking experience.

The Purpose of Sending an Effective Resume to a Receiver

The objective behind sending a resume is to persuade a prospective employer to offer an interview. But this objective will not be attained if an ineffectively written resume reaches the hands of a prospective employer. Therefore, people who send resumes that fail to construct and illustrate value to prospective employers will unknowingly send these documents to the shredder or a computer trash bin. When resumes end up as unwanted pieces of paper or deletions, they have failed to do what they are supposed to do get the receiver to grant an interview.

The resume holds the interest of two parties: the job applicant and the prospective employer. Though both parties have needs to meet, their objectives are different. Senders want to earn salaries by utilizing skills productively. The receivers want to instruct workers on how to use their skills to achieve specific profit-making results. However, before these objectives can be met, the resume must be able to meet its intended purpose. Ultimately, this responsibility rests in the hands of the sender. Similar to tennis, where the sender must hit the ball in-bounds for a possible return, the resume must land within the boundaries of the receiver’s interest so that he or she will return it in the form of an interview.
